A coach’s view of the weekend of racing

Last weekend saw Absolute Tri athletes race not just at various locations around the UK but also in Europe. Our elite junior Jimmy Kershaw, along with some other elite juniors raced in Vienna at a Junior ETU race. Along with some BTF coaching staff (including myself) the trip was fly in, race and fly out again, a very quick visit with no time to take in the city. For Jimmy, not one of his greatest races due to a cold that really came to a head on the run (or walk) but it’s another lesson learnt on this long journey.

Back in the UK we have athletes racing in London, in both the Elite Aquathon races and the age group races with some great performances, especially from Caitlin Roper who was 2nd in the Youth elite race.

Closer to home we have athletes racing both Saturday and Sunday at The national water sports centre in Nottingham in the Age group sprint distances races on the Saturday and then the half Outlaw on the Sunday. Saturday saw some great racing with all our athletes doing themselves and the coaching team proud and having some fun along the way. Sunday, in what were awful conditions saw a large number of our athletes racing in the Outlaw Half. Again everyone did themselves proud with some outstanding performances, especially from Cat Wynne who was 7th overall and 1st in her age group of 40-44 (don’t tell her i put this) and James Corlett who put to bed the demons of last year to come 23rd overall.

These results don’t tell the whole story as we had loads of athletes compete over this distance for the first time who did exceptionally well, athletes coming back that did themselves proud and also a massive number of supporters and volunteers that made the day special for all those taking part, not just our athletes, they deserve a big thank you as well.

The weekend racing didn’t stop there as Sunday morning saw a large number of our Juniors compete at Mallory Park with some outstanding performances from everyone. I’m not going to list those that finished on the podium as you all know who you are but say a big well done to all those that raced and did Absolute Tri proud on an awful day of racing.

All the above happened in 1 weekend of racing, I’m sorry i couldn’t be at every race to support our athletes but I’m sure you will see it’s impossible but as a coaching team we are proud of you all.

Roll on next weekend
