Last weekend saw the first major event of the year for the Youth and Junior athletes, the British Triathlon Performance Assessments. This annual event is an opportunity for the athletes to test themselves and the best from all around the country and also seed them for future races in the National Super Series.
The first part of the event was held at Nottingham University which is where part of the Nottingham Performance Centre is based so the athletes were on home soil. The youth athletes did a 400m swim and junior athletes 800m. With 13 of our academy athletes racing and having put a hard winter of training in expectations were high for some good performances. Overall we had 8 PB’s and 2 athletes that were the same time as their PB’s, as a coach we can’t ask anymore than that. We also had a few athletes in the top times for the weekend, even better.
day 2 was held at Prestwold Race circuit where the athletes did a bike a run with their start time based on the swim time. Conditions were a little cold a blowy but all athletes putting in some great performances to finish with some very credible results.
For some of our athletes this was their very first ‘proper’ triathlon race and to be doing it with the best athletes from around the country showed how much hard work they have put in over the winter.
Looking forward to building on these results as the season progresses.
A couple of quotes from the weekend
‘That is the hardest thing i have ever done’
‘Comes down to one simple thing, how bad do you want it’
